This gallery tells visitors about the history of the port through a large photographic collection. Some early photographs show a very different Townsville to the place we call home. Other objects here include a US diver's ‘hard hat', with an example of an air pump used for supplying air to divers, an interesting collection of early navigation instruments, a fabulous model of HMS Pandora and a model of a labour trade vessel, the Foam. Great things are planned for this gallery, with research already having been carried out into how people lived in this area when it was first settled and how maritime industries shaped the immediate region. Grants will enable us to begin the work of putting together a display. |
